Art Festivals at The Laguna Beach

Its natural opulence and serene beauty make Laguna Beach the perfect setting for two well-known festivals held annually throughout the months of July and August: The Festival of Arts/Pageant of the Masters and The Sawdust Art Festival. Wine tastings, art and craft classes, and musical entertainment all make these festivals fun for visitors and locals to enjoy every year.

Laguna Beach: The Riviera of North America

Also known as “The Riviera of North America,” Laguna Beach is a picturesque town with miles of sandy beaches and hidden coves. Located between Los Angeles and San Diego, Laguna Beach has long been a get away for Hollywood stars, rock stars, and regular folks who enjoy the scenic coastline and majestic hills that surround Laguna.

Laguna Beach established itself as an art colony in the early 1900’s, attracting artists such as Norman St. Claire, William Wendt and Frank Cuprien. In 1918, the artist Edgar Payne opened an art gallery that later became what is today the Laguna Art Museum. Still drawing art aficionados, the Laguna Art Museum was one of the first art museums in the state.

Visitors to Laguna Beach enjoy all of the features of a full-fledged resort town. Accommodations such as hotels, B&B’s, seaside villas, and full-service resorts cater to every traveler’s needs. The area is known as one of the premier dining destinations in Southern California, with restaurants serving many ethnic cuisines. Shopping in Laguna Beach offers visitors and locals many choices. Forest Avenue (home of Rock Martin Custom Jewelry) is the main shopping street, with art galleries and eclectic boutiques lining both sides.

There are always several attractions and special events to be seen in and around town, ranging from the art festivals, to historical tours and wilderness parks, to dolphin and whale watching. Laguna’s warmth can best be illustrated by gate built in the 1930’s. It still stands on Forest Avenue today and reads, “This gate hangs well and hinders none, refresh and rest, and then travel on.”
